Introducing the deaf dog project

Dark Moon Deaf Dog Project
We are happy to introduce the Dark Moon Deaf Dog Project. The project is inspired by Ghost and Buddeee, two of the fosters at Dark Moon Kennels. These sweet boys are both deaf.
If you follow Dark Moon you have seen Ghost and Buddeee before. Ghost is one of the original orphan litter. You can see the full story of the orphan litter at: darkmoonpuppyproject.blogspot.com
Buddee was removed from a neglectful/abusive situation by a client who has been fostering him over the last year. Both dogs found themselves in need of new situations this summer and so they are joining us as the founding members of the Dark Moon Deaf Dog project! We want to see what it takes to train these dogs, to teach them how to understand their home and surroundings, and to see how far we can take them.
Ghost and Buddeee are very special boys. Each of them is very attentive, keeping close track of what is going on around them. These two seem to get along very well, understanding each other easily. Even after months apart they fall into a team very easily. This is especially significant because Ghost, like all of his littermates, is extremely sensitive and easily worried. The two of them have begun basic training, working for about half an hour each day with our trainer. We are using lure reward training along with patience and a playful attitude.
We are looking for other owners of Deaf dogs who would like to join us in the Deaf Dog project by sharing your stories as you live and work with a deaf dog.
